Memex - what is it
A memex is a conceptual device proposed by engineer and inventor Vannevar Bush in his 1945 essay "As We May Think." It envisioned a futuristic, mechanized system for storing, organizing, and retrieving vast amounts of information, allowing individuals to create associative "trails" of linked data. The memex would function like an extended personal memory, where users could record their ideas, annotate content, and easily search through information in a non-linear, associative way. Though never built, the memex concept is often seen as a precursor to modern technologies like hypertext, the World Wide Web, and personal knowledge management systems.
