Zettlekasten - What is it

A Zettelkasten is a system for organising knowledge through writing notes in your own words, actively thinking about how each idea connects to other notes, and linking related concepts together. It typically includes three types of notes: fleeting notes, which capture quick ideas or reminders; literature notes, which summarise sources such as papers or books; and permanent notes, which develop and synthesise ideas by grouping and reworking other notes while asking what the concept actually means. Together, these notes form an interconnected network of thought, supported by an index that helps navigate and retrieve ideas within the system.
